Come one, Come all to the first EWG Variety Show at our new school. This event takes place on Tuesday, May 31 at 7:00pm. Admission is a donation at the door. This event features our very own Fire Drummers under the direction of Mrs. Morrow. Please plan to attend an evening of entertainment and support our students.
My name is Manuella, along with 3 of my class mates, Patrick, Sam, and Trevor, we are fundraising to build a well in India. Through Children Changing the World, we have registered to raise $750 to build a well in India. We are doing this because our teacher told us about it and we weren't getting much done on our other school project so we decided it would be a good experience and a nice thing to do. We are working with SOPAR.
Local newcomers Jim and Carol Logie visited Mr. Augustine's Culture class in full costume to share their love of history. Jim and Carol brought with them a display of homemade items they sell at reinactments all across Canada and the United States. Jim and Carol tell a story relating to history with each of their items from the 1700's to 1820's. Carol sews all of Jim's period costumes, mitts, possible bags with bead work, and makes her own sashes which she demonstrated. Jim is an avid carver of period knives and tomahawks which he brought for the display.
Nine students from Eleanor W. Graham under the direction of their math teacher Susan Vienneau recently competed in the Concours de Mathematiques du Nouveau Brunswick. James Lee, Megali Marsh, Shae Scully, Jenny Steinmann, Michelle Comeau, Madison Girvan-Milliea, Abby Johnson, Angelica Owen and Shanece Wilson spent the day at UdeM. Other activities were organized for the students after the competition. Many thanks to Madame Vienneau for preparing the students and congratulations to our Eagles and many thanks to them as well for representing their school.
On Tuesday April 19th, two of our grade 7 French Immersion students participated in the district French Oratory competition. They both did a fantastic job and came home with medals. Miriam Scheele received a bronze medal and MacKenzie Warman received a gold medal. MacKenzie will be advancing to the provincial competition on April 30th. It will be held at the Université de Moncton. Good Luck MacKenzie!

Miramichi Kinsmen and School District 16 are pleased to accept film
entries for the first annual Kin Film Festival. All School District 16
students are invited to participate. Films can be submitted in one of
two categories: Open and The Kinsmen Category. The top 10 films in each
category will be screened on May 7th, 2011 at Miramichi Empire Studio
5. Cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 will be awarded for the winners
in each category.

The Wood Chuck or Charles Bernard, depending if you know him personally donated a carving to EWG Middle School. During his Artist in Residency program, Mr. Bernard started to carve an eagle, to give the students an idea of what they would be doing in class. He worked on the piece carving it to a point where he felt it could be completed by the students. It was then finished and painted by Mr. Mourant and a few of the students and hangs over the administration office in the main lobby.
EWG Students volunteer on two occasions in March to provide the entire student body and staff with a nutrition break. In keeping with the school's Wellness and Healthy Learner's Policy, on March 17th with assistance from Mrs. Warman our Community Schools Coordinator, students prepared and baked a variety of muffins for 190 students. The volunteers went class to class before morning break distributing the goodies.
The students and staff gathered on the morning of Feb. 23rd pretty in pink, in support of Anti-Bullying Day. Each homeroom teacher received a No Bully Zone poster for their students to sign as a pledge to stand up against bullying. Some students wore pink badges to support the cause and posters were placed in both official languages advertising the event. Thanks to everyone who participated and took the pledge!
Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week was initiated by the Canadian Home and School Federation in 1988. The purpose of the week is to encourage parents and the wider community to recognize the personal and professional contributions that our teachers and school staff make to children in their education. Every school has dedicated staff members such as secretaries, teacher assistants, bus drivers, custodians, teachers and cafeteria staff. TSAW lets them know they are appreciated and that parents want to work with them on the same team.
