 Students volunteered to paint banners for the Tri-Community Banner Festival, the girls worked hard to capture the "Music" theme of this years festival.(LtoR) KK

The Miramichi Kinsmen and School District 16 are pleased to accept film entries for the second annual Kin Film Festival.  All School District 16 students are invited to participate.  Films can be submitted in one of two categories: Open and The Kinsmen Category (The Communities Greatest Need).  The top 10 films in each category will be screened on May 12th, 2012 at Miramichi Empire Studio 5.  Cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 will be awarded for the winners in each category.

EWG has a TATU club! This group of students with the assistance of Health Canada and the Elsipogtog Health Center was started to raise awareness of the negative effects of tobacco misuse! The group designed their own t-shirts and are working on a campaign for their school to bring information to their peers and help them stay smoke free!

EWG students literally received a taste of the Acadian and First Nation culture last week. On Tuesday, they celebrated bilingual day. Some students displayed bilingual signs throughtout the building, we had tradtional food samplings of fricot, poutines and rapee and during activity period Remi Boudreau the magician did a bilingual magic show where some of our students became his assistant. On Friday, March 30th the students took part in a Pow Wow.

Students were given the opportunity to take part in a schoolwide photo/art contest. Categories included, digital print, painting and drawing. Prizes were awarded at each grade level for each category. An impartial judge from outside the school was invited in to make the final decisions and the prizes and pictures were awarded at a morning assembly. All art work is displayed in the cafetoriam for parents to see at Parent/Teacher night.

The Minister of Education announced last week at a press conference that boundary changes would proceed for July however, Rexton area schools will remain with the Miramichi area. He explained that public input was the reason for the change.

Once again, EWG Foods is providing a free turkey dinner with all the fixins' and dessert to all students on Tuesday, December 20th. Many thanks to those staff and suppliers who have donated to this cause. There will be no other meal options on Tuesday so if your son/daughter does not want the dinner, please ensure they bring a lunch.

Four lucky winners were awarded Times and Transcript honours in the annual Christmas Essay Contest. Congratulations to Brady Carruthers, Denver Lawson, Dillon Augustine and Lee Scully.

Students from Mr. Theriault’s and Ms. King’s grade 6 language arts classes at Eleanor W Graham Middle School had the opportunity to take part in an international fundraising activity this fall. They had learned about the poor living conditions and lack of access to clean drinking water in countries like Haiti and they wanted to help.
