Paddle into the Community

Posted: June 2, 2010

Isaac Wilson a grade 8 student of Eleanor W. Graham carved the paddle from a piece of pine and Kirsten Flewelling a grade 11 student from Bonar Law Memorial designed the logo.   SMART Technologies presented the City of Miramichi with the designation of SMART's first Showcase Community on June 1st, 2010 at the Rodd Miramichi.  During the ceremony the paddle that was hand carved and painted was presented to a representative from the Dept. of Tourism. The paddle will travel to locations along the river that represent education, tourism and business.  District 16 and the city of Miramichi have long played a special role in the SMART story. Over the past 10 years, District 16 has enthusiastically adopted SMART products into each of its schools to improve learning outcomes. Our teachers have become experts on the products, regularly sharing their expertise with other districts and taking part in distance learning projects around the world. Great job and congratulations to our students for taking on the challenge and meeting the deadlines.
