21st Century Learning at EWG

When parents hear the phrase "21st Century Learning," they most often ask, what exactly is meant by that? The following webpage illustrates an example of what our students are learning, what they are capable of doing and most importantly how they are being prepared for life outside the classroom. The unique opportunities these students were so fortunate to have experienced, taught them life lessons without them ever realizing reading and writing were two of the key outcomes of this project. Mr. Kevin Scully and Mr. Shawn Fletcher, with the assistance of an Innovative Learning Fund (ILF) spent two years mentoring and overseeing this project. Mr. Scully credits Mr. Hugh Thompson, a former teacher now retired,  as his inspiration for this project.  The dedication you will find on the River of Fire's home page clearly describes where Mr. Scully's passion for teaching, learning and sharing came from and the impact Mr. Thompson once had on him. Along with everything the students learned outside the classroom, as a bonus, every student experienced an improvement in reading levels; as separate groups, both boys and girls experienced improvements; many students experienced a substantial improvement in reading levels and it was soon discovered that the written assignments, blogs, discussion groups and anecdotal records all pointed to important results of this project. Please take a moment to browse this amazing webpage and discover for yourself what is meant by 21st Century Learning. http://riveroffire.wikispaces.com/
